Meridian: British digital sound, engineered as one system

Meridian has been designing and building audio systems in Cambridgeshire since 1977. Founded by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd, it made the first digital active loudspeaker, and it has spent the decades since refining one idea: that the amplifier, the processing and the speaker should be engineered together as a single instrument, not assembled from separate boxes.

DSP loudspeakers. In a Meridian digital active speaker, each drive unit has its own amplifier, and digital signal processing shapes the sound before it reaches them. The practical result in a home is fewer boxes and less cabling: a pair of speakers and a source can be the whole system. For an interior, that means sound of real scale without a rack of equipment on show.

“The amplifier, the processing and the speaker, designed as one.”

Architectural speakers. Meridian also builds in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers that carry the same engineering into rooms where nothing should be on show. They suit media rooms, cinemas and principal living spaces where an interior designer has, quite rightly, no interest in looking at a loudspeaker.

Meridian's engineers have also tuned sound systems for car makers including McLaren and Jaguar Land Rover, which says something about how the company handles difficult rooms.

Meridian sits alongside Steinway Lyngdorf, L-Acoustics and Sonance in our audio stable. Which one we specify depends on the room, the interior and how you listen. We are a Meridian dealer, and we design each system alongside your architect and interior designer.
