Cinema rooms

For the ultimate cinematic experience, we’ll work with you to design a dedicated room with a fixed front projection screen, considering everything from lighting and seating, screen size and viewing angles, through to acoustic treatments, bass management and sound pressure levels, all built with a simple user interface so you can relax and enjoy your films in incredible comfort.

Media rooms

Turn your family or living space into an integrated media room, with a flat screen TV or drop-down projection screens for event viewing. Working hand in hand with you and your design team, we’ll craft solutions that best suits your interior and lifestyle, integrating all equipment seamlessly into your environment.

Cinema room or media room?

These are two different things, and confusing them is the most common and most expensive mistake we see.

A cinema room is a dedicated space with a fixed projection screen, controlled lighting, acoustic treatment and seating laid out around one ideal viewing position. It is designed to do one thing perfectly, in the dark.

A media room is a room you already live in — a family room, a snug, a kitchen-diner — that also happens to do film and television extremely well. It has to work with daylight, with furniture arranged for conversation, and with people wandering in and out.

The design decisions are almost entirely different, and so is the budget. We’ve written a jargon-free guide to choosing between them.

What we design around

Every cinema and media room we design starts with the same measurements, not the same equipment list: viewing distance and screen size, seating position, acoustic treatment, bass management, and sound pressure levels.

Where the equipment matters, we are dealers for Steinway Lyngdorf, Meridian, L-Acoustics, Sonance and Sonos for audio, Control4 for control, and Future Automation for motorised lifts, mounts and concealment.

Questions we’re asked

What does a home cinema cost?

A dedicated cinema room typically starts from around £50,000. The final figure depends on the room, the acoustic treatment and the equipment you choose.

How much space do I need for a dedicated cinema room?

Around 3.5 by 5 metres is a practical minimum for a dedicated cinema room.

Can I get proper sound without visible speakers?

Yes. We install plaster-in invisible speakers, which disappear completely into the ceiling or wall. We were one of the first UK companies to demonstrate them permanently.

Will it still work in ten years?

This is the question behind most of the others. Our answer is to design around best-in-class products that integrate directly with each other, rather than a single central processor whose failure takes the whole house down.
