See it before you choose
A full range of shading is on demonstration at our Experience Centre, in real rooms, not on a sample board. You can see how a blind sits in its recess, how a sheer and a blackout work together, and how quietly everything moves.
Lutron's blinds move in unison and hold their fabric flat, so a wall of glass reads as one calm surface. Paired with the lighting, the house manages glare and privacy on its own as the day moves round.
Visits are by appointment. Designers are welcome to bring clients, fabrics and drawings.
How shading is designed
The best blinds disappear when they are open, and that has to be planned. A recess in the ceiling, a pocket above the window and a cable in the right place all need to be drawn before first fix.
At concept stage, we work from the architect's drawings and the interior designer's scheme to agree which windows have blinds, curtains or both, and where each will be hidden.
At technical design stage, we give the builder and joiner what they need before first fix: recess and pocket sizes, wiring and power.
At second fix, the blinds go in and are set up on the same keypads as the lighting, so one button can close the house for the evening.
In Surrey
Most of our projects include blinds, and they are designed alongside the lighting so the two work as one. Our Experience Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames is where Surrey clients and their designers come to see them working. Lighting design in Surrey
Working with your interior designer
Your design leads. Our job is to make it work beautifully. Interior designers and architects are the people we work with every day, and we are set up to work the way design practices do.
- Curtains and Roman blinds are normally made by your interior designer's workroom, in their fabric. We work with them so that everything is controlled together
- Roller blinds we normally supply ourselves, finished and ready to fit
- We are an accredited CPD provider for RIBA, BIID and SBID, and have trained hundreds of design professionals in lighting, shading and home technology. See our courses
- We exhibit at Decorex, alongside the interior design community we work with
- Bring your client to our Experience Centre, where a full range of shading is on demonstration
Questions we are asked
Who installs motorised blinds in Surrey?
Homeplay designs and installs Lutron motorised blinds across Surrey from its Experience Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames. Founded in 2006, we are a Lutron dealer. Most of our projects include blinds, designed alongside the lighting.
Are motorised blinds the same as electric blinds?
Yes. Motorised, electric and automated blinds are different names for the same thing: a blind moved by a quiet motor instead of a cord or chain.
Can curtains and Roman blinds be part of it?
Yes. Curtains and Roman blinds are normally made by your interior designer's workroom, in their fabric, and we work with them so that everything is controlled together. Roller blinds we normally supply ourselves, finished.
Which make of blinds do you use?
Lutron. We are a Lutron dealer and use Lutron for blinds as well as lighting control, so both work from the same keypads.
What do motorised blinds cost?
As a guide, shading for a home typically starts at around £25,000. With us, blinds are generally part of a wider project and not a stand-alone order.
When should blinds be planned?
At concept stage, alongside the architect and interior designer, and in any case before first fix. Recesses, pockets and cabling are far easier to build in than to add later.
Where can I see motorised blinds working?
At the Homeplay Experience Centre, 117 Windmill Road, Sunbury-on-Thames, TW16 7EF, where a full range of shading is on demonstration. Visits are by appointment on +44 1932 781 327.
Do you only do blinds?
No. Lighting is our main focus, and we also design music, television, cinema, Wi-Fi and security, so one team is responsible for all of it. Lighting design in Surrey
